Brunei Garrison agreement extended (24/06/2009)
The British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam have signed a five-year extension to the Brunei Garrison Agreement.
The agreement will see the British Gurkha Brigade retain their base in Brunei until 2014. There has been a contigent of British Gurkhas in Brunei since 1962.
During a meeting at No 10 Downing Street today, the two leaders also discussed the global economy and the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the UK and Brunei.
Gordon Brown and the Sultan of Brunei also discussed the situation in Burma and constitutional reform.
