Two Brunei Chevening Alumni members attended a three-day Chevening/ British Malaysia Chamber Of Commerce Accelerated Leadership Programme in Kuala Lumpur from 11th until 13th March 2009.
Dayang Noorhayati binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah and Dayang Siti Salwah binti Abu Saim will be attending a three-day Chevening/ British Malaysia Chamber Of Commerce Accelerated Leadership Programme which starts tomorrow.
The programme is aimed at developing the potential of those Chevening Alumni who are about to step into a leadership role within their organisation, or who wish to improve upon their leadership skills. Participation from around the Asean region covers a wide range of fields from government, business, the legal sector, environmental and civil society groups and many more.
25 participants who are all Chevening alumni comprising of 14 Malaysian alumni and 11 from Asean (Manila, Singapore, Hanoi, Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Jakarta, Phnom Penh) are taking part at the event to be held at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Bukit Bintang.
Participants will hear motivational talks on leadership and business coaching from three well-known consultants especially invited for the programme. The three consultants are Miss Jill Norton, a global executive learning and development specialist; Mr Brian John Lariche and Mr Paul Sykes, both are Associates with the JWN International Training Consultancy. On the third day, there will be a CEO- open discussion titled `Leadership in a Crisis' where top leaders have been invited to share their experiences with participants on managing their organisations through hard times. The confirmed panellists are:
Mr Jon Addis, Executive Director and Deputy CEO of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad; Mr Stuart Rowley, CEO and Board Director of Prince Court Medical Centre; Dato' Dr Michael Yeoh, Founder, Executive Director and CEO of Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI); Datuk Rafiah Salim, former Vice Chancellor for University of Malaya (currently Fellow of Faculty) and Dato' Dr Rebecca Sta Maria, Deputy Secretary General of PEMUDAH.
The British High Commissioner, His Excellency John Saville said: "I would like to congratulate our two Bruneian Chevening alumni for participating in this regional meeting of Chevening alumni. The Chevening programme offers its alumni vast opportunities in terms of networking and leadership experience as it is a global UK education scheme. I hope our two local alumni will make use of their days in KL and come home with a good network and leadership-related knowledge."
Dayang Noorhayati works as a Manager at Telbru Sdn Bhd and was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Chevening Scholarship back in 2002 when she was co-sponsored by HSBC to study Master of Science in International Banking and Finance/ Corporate Finance at Salford University.
Siti Salwah is a Manager at Citibank NA and received the Queen Elizabeth II Chevening Scholarship in 2003 where her study in MA Marketing at Kingston University was co-sponsored by BLNG.
The leadership development programme is jointly organised by the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. Funding to attend the programme for the Brunei alumni came from the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, HSBC, Brunei and BAE Systems.
