Points Based System
The Points Based System (PBS) is a system for managing migration for those wishing to enter the UK for work or study. The system has five tiers for five different categories. These are;
- Tier 1: General Migrant/Post study work;
- Tier 2 General/Inter company transfers;
- Tier 4 Students (Child and Adults); and
- Tier 5 Temporary workers/International agreement.
The different tiers have different launched dates and for the Tier 4 student's visa, it was launched on 31 March 2009. So, for those who are going to study in the UK from this year, 2009 will now need to apply for that tier from now on.
The Brunei Government sponsors most of the Bruneian students in the UK. For privately funded students, it's important that they are able to satisfy the Entry Clearance Officer that they have sufficient funds to cover their stay in the UK.
The good news is that students are now able to find out from this UK Home Border website on how much money exactly they need to show to demonstrate they can meet the cost of their tuition fees and maintenance while they are studying in the UK. The student will need to demonstrate that the money is immediately available to them and that it has been in a bank account under their name or bank account where they are named as a joint account holder for at least 28 days. Please remember that the end of that 28-day period must not be more than one month before the date of your application.
