Taking your amah or foreign domestic workers to the UK

If you wish to take your Domestic Worker (Amah) to the UK for either a short visit or to live there with you, there are a number of requirements to be met.

• Your domestic worker must be aged between 18 to 65 years;
• You must be able to demonstrate that they have worked for you for the preceding continuous 12 months period from the date of the UK visa application;
• They must plan to travel with you to the UK (or with your spouse or minor children only);
• You must be able to demonstrate that you are able to maintain and accommodate them in the UK without recourse to public funds in their own room.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

• To demonstrate that you are able to maintain and accommodate your domestic worker in the UK; we would expect you to provide 3 months bank statements and evidence of the accommodation in the UK (e.g. mortgage, tenancy agreements or land registry documents).
• You must be able to show that your domestic worker has been employed for you continually for the preceding 12 months. Documentary evidence of this is required and can include visa sponsorship documents, contracts of employment and evidence of medical insurance payments. The list is not exhaustive but the onus rests on you to show that you have employed your amah for 12 months from the date of the visa application backwards.
