Manager, Economic Diversification & Knowledge Economy

As part of British diplomacy’s growing presence in Asia, we are looking for a Manager, Economic Diversification & Knowledge Economy to join our dynamic team.  

Background  
The British High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. This newly-created position will report directly to the High Commissioner and serve as a key member of the management team, also working with policy makers in London to implement fresh initiatives.  

Main Duties
Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading on the development and delivery of the High Commission’s strategy to help promote economic diversification in Brunei;
  • Delivering a high level service to key customers and stakeholders; and
  • Managing programme funds to ensure on-budget expenditure of value for money projects.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in and knowledge of the Bruneian economy and the government’s plans to promote economic diversification (e.g. Vision 2035);
  • Degree-holder, preferably from a UK university.  Advantageous, but not required, to hold a degree related to economics, knowledge economy, alternative energy or bio-technology;
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with experience of networking desirable;
  • Entrepreneurial flair and drive to deliver results;
  • Strong English language skills, both spoken and written;
  • Proficiency in the Malay language would be an advantage; and
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
